Sometimes life feels hard. Even if we're living with awareness and are 'being love,' there are times when life just feels challenging.
"We turn to God for help when our foundations are shaking, only to learn that it is God who is shaking them." (Charles C. West) Charles' wisdom is on target - life, in its divine all-knowing, has created certain circumstances for us to experience, in order for us to grow and become our best self.
And sometimes those experiences feel like our very foundation is rocking and in danger of collapse. We might wonder how all of this difficulty could be good for us. But in hindsight, we clearly see that it has been the challenges, the tough times, Hegar dilators that have spurred us on to even greater heights of growth.
Even if you get to a place of feeling like you've hit 'rock bottom', the good news is that things can only get better from there! As Wynonna Judd sings, "Rock bottom is good solid ground. And a dead-end street is just a place to turn around." Begin to see difficult, challenging times as a wonderful opportunity to turn, to change course, to find a new direction.
And know that even on your weakest days, you are a little bit stronger, a little bit wiser, a little bit more in tune with yourself. For it is out of our greatest challenges that comes our greatest growth.
Take a moment and reflect back on your own life...think of those difficult times when you felt frustrated, confused, and wondering. I would bet that out of each of those times, you found your way, and you grew from the experience.
Typically our greatest leaps forward in personal growth come from these challenging times (not from the times when life is easy and everything is going our way). So while they are sometimes difficult to handle in the moment, out of that adversity come some of your greatest gifts.
And frankly, if life were a constant bed of roses, we'd become bored. There would be no variation, no change - the constant 'sameness' would become hard to bear. We would wish for some new experience, some new challenge to tackle. As Johann Paul Friedrich Richter said, "Sleep, riches, and health to be truly enjoyed must be interrupted."
So the next time you hit a dead-end street or a challenging experience, remember that you are still in the flow of life, you're just riding the rapids for a bit. It's all good. It's all life. It's all bringing gifts to you in the end.
Ride it out with the best attitude you can muster. For as your perspective on difficulties shifts, so will the experiences you have. The more accepting you become of the challenging times, the easier they will be to live through.
So when it doesn't come easy, recognize that it's all part of the process of life.
